“It was completely unanimous!” exclaimed Harper’s Bazaar editor-in-chief Glenda Bailey of the selection of Kieran Dallison for the CFDA/Gilt Groupe All-Star scholarship. Dallison just graduated from FIT last month, but his work has already earned the seal of approval from the award’s crack judging committee, which also included designers Prabal Gurung and Stacey Bendet, as well as Gilt‘s Jyothi Rao and the CFDA‘s Lisa Smilor.
The group gathered at the Mondrian Soho last night to toast Dallison’s collection of easy, affordable pieces now on sale on Gilt. Bailey praised the young designer for his understanding of the “importance of flattering the female form” and the “simple beauty and confidence” displayed in his work. Also integral to Dallison’s success were strong ambition and a clear sense of direction.
“He has really an intense focus on where he wants to work,” Bailey explained. “He’s been telling me about the designers he would like to learn more from, so I’m looking forward to emailing them tomorrow.” We prodded Dallison for clues as to who these recipients might be, and while he told us that one major name had already been crossed off by working with Gurung, “the utmost on my list always has been Dries Van Noten“.
Not a bad start for a recent grad, though Dallison maintains that “once these clothes are on sale, I’m in the same boat as everybody else!”
Take a peek at the collection below and then head on over to Gilt to get a piece of the action before Dallison hits the big time.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
