Valentino, Azzedine Alaïa, and Isabel Marant might not be the first names to come to mind amidst a first glance at the Kardashian’s new Lipsky range, but according to birthday girl Kim Kardashian, these storied designers inspired their new body-con collection.
“Valentino and Isabel Marant aren’t really our style, but their influence is reflected in the collection,” Kardashian told Vogue UK. “That idea of casual comfort that people love inspired the fabrics – there’s a lot of stretch. You know an Alaïa dress will hold and suck you in? I wanted to make pieces like that, pieces to make you feel really good about yourself.”
We can’t speak for the masses, but Kim, Kourtney, and Khloé seem right at home in their stretchy shifts if the Terry Richardson-shot photos are any indication — especially Kim, who despite giving birth this summer is look damn fine these days (just ask Kanye). Still, the malicious criticism she experienced during maternity did get to her.
“For me, having people criticize what I wore and looked like when I was pregnant – that was hard,” she explained. “It made me feel insecure, so I have tried to avoid the limelight more. Once you start focusing on the other stuff, the fragrances and our fashion line, you stop worrying about the rest.”
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star also spoke about those miniature designs she received from the likes of Alexander Wang, Riccardo Tisci, Alber Elbaz, and more for baby North West.
“I was just blown away by the generosity of the designers for sending me those pieces,” said Kim. “Not all of the brands even make clothes for babies. This is the fun part right? Dressing her up and making her look nice. She’s much more stylish than I was when I was little, absolutely.”
