We’re all in favor of people doing what makes them happy, no matter how eccentric or expensive those actions might be. But something about Real Housewife of Atlanta Kim Zolciak paying more than it costs to put a downpayment on a small mansion for a second-hand wedding dress just doesn’t make any sense.
If you hadn’t heard yet, 33-year-old Zolciak married 25-year-old Atlanta Falcons defensive end Kroy Biermann at their home in Atlanta Friday afternoon. And the dress — a lavish, $58,000 Swarovski crystal bedecked duchess satin affair from custom bridal designer Baracci Beverly Hills — came from none other than PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com, the Internet’s leading purveyor of, well, pre-owned wedding dresses.
According to the site’s blog, Zolciak bought the dress “within 24 hours of it being posted” by its previous owner, a California woman named Janice. While we can’t figure out how much Janice paid for the dress, spending $58,000 on something that someone else already wore, when you could easily get something that is uniquely your own for way, way less, baffles us.
Apparently, Zolciak bought Janice’s used Baracci because she and Biermann got engaged in October and wanted to get married on 11/11/11, leaving them precious little time to plan a wedding — and even less time to commission an adequately gaudy custom wedding dress. So she hunted around for something that would fit her frame on the Internet, and apparently the not-so-thrifty thrifted dress was the best option.
Love it or hate it, the dress sure is something, and we hope Zolciak felt every bit the blushing bride when she said her “I dos” yesterday. We just hope she doesn’t regret wearing someone else’s frock.
