If you’ve been keeping the kind of close tabs on Kristen Stewart that we have, you’ll have noticed that the Twilight star has really been taking quite a few uncharacteristic risks on the red carpet as of late. Props are due to Tara Swennen for this recent development, since she’s styled KStew since the actress was just 15 and has helped her break out of her tomboyish shell (if not always her sneakers).
The Cut spoke to Sweenen about her client’s penchant for Converse (“There are definitely times when I have to say, ‘Please, please, please put the heel on just for me.’”), whether she’ll still swath Stewart in Balenciaga post-Ghesquière (yes), and, of course, the recent bout of ultra-sheer pieces we’ve seen on the Breaking Dawn: Part Two red carpets.
“It took a lot of balls for her to wear that dress,” Sweenen said of the beige Zuhair Murad corset dress, “so I’m super-proud of her.” And we guess once Stewart had taken the plunge and bared all for one premiere, why stop there?
Even though they are a big departure from Kristen’s usual leggy, somewhat sporty looks, the stylist insists the two daring Murad pieces were the perfect fit:
“It really fits her silhouette. Like Balmain a few years ago, you pretty much just zip it up and it fits. He’s had some very unique pieces; as you can obviously see, we went from the lace bustier gown at the premiere to the completely sheer beaded jumpsuit in London. He really does have a lot of very exquisite pieces; it’s couture essentially. I’m drawn to it just because each look is so special, and then it’s been fitting her so elegantly. She’s worn three recently, and each one of them has been stunning. Don’t get me wrong, there are some pieces of his that she tried on that would never have worked, but these particular pieces have been amazing.”
