Much has been made of what Lady Gaga wears lately — whether it’s a statement, whether it’s a gimmick, whether she’s just crazy. The pop star announced at the Video Music Awards that the title of her new album is “Born This Way,” because Gaga claims to have been born a “freak.” But a new book — and several photos — prove that her style choices weren’t always as extreme as a dress made of meat.
The book is called “Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga,” and it was written by Maureen Callahan, a former reporter for The New York Post. As good as that paper’s writers are at digging up dirt, you know they were going to get good photos of Gaga’s past, back when she was still Stephanie Joanne Angelina Germanotta and had her original hair color.
We’ve seen some of these photos before, but this is the first time we could bring them together in one post. Still, despite her healthy tan and her robust figure, and in the face of her Converse lo-tops and her A&F hoodie, we can remember as teenagers not having the means or the know how to use our clothing to its full advantage (in some cases, we don’t have either of those things now). So it’s not hard for us to believe somewhere in that first picture, underneath that powder blue, mall-bought camisole lies the living work of art dying to get out.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
