Lady Gaga: ‘Fashion Saved Me from Being Sad’

“So, what do you think: Is she or ain’t she?”

Like Holly Golightly, Lady Gaga “believes all this crap she believes,” which makes her a real phony and not a run-of-the-mill phony who’s too square to cover Fashion Magazine’s February 2014 issue with a headlamp-cum-monocle strapped to her head.

In an excerpt of the interview, the high priestess of (Art)pop defends her outré style, deeming it a service to her fans:

“I just want to make you feel something with what I wear. I want you to feel happy and enjoy the theatre of my life the way that I do … This is who I am and it’s never been an act and it’s never been marketing. This is me all the way to my core and fashion is a big part of my life.”

Also playing a prominent role is doppelgänger Donatella Versace, whom she regards as a role model:

“I don’t always have anyone to look up to. It can be kind of lonely because you know some people have been very accepting of me as an artist and some people haven’t. Seeing where Donatella is and how far she’s come and continues to go makes me feel like … I have somebody I can look up to and say ‘I can be that’ or maybe I can at least try.”

How sweet. “Happy” might be a stretch even for the surprise ad we stumbled upon that fateful Saturday, but we can still remember having a semi-emotional reaction to this, this and especially this.
