The motorcycles! The dancing! THE COSTUMES! Ugh, so much awesome going on. The plot itself is pretty straightforward — Gaga plays a lady who leads a motorcycle gang of Jesus and his apostles into a reimagined Jerusalem. However, as The Mary Sue‘s Susana Polo pointed out to us, Gaga actually cast herself as several different characters — the Virgin Mary, Mary Magdalene, the stoned (no, not that kind of stoned) prostitute, and as Jesus in the betrayal scene. Totally crazy.
There’s also a lipstick gun and ridiculous nail art and a whole lot of bandanas! Oh yeah, there are a lot of crosses, too. Basically, the people who were pissed about the song in the first place will not be down with this video. We, however, are.
Watch the full-length clip (which Gaga co-directed with her creative director Laurieann Gibson) below, and make sure you flip through our slideshow of all the video’s looks!
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
