Say what you will about the current oversaturation of Lady Gaga — the pop superstar still remains compelling in the face of what has been an unprecedented media campaign for her new album. Last night MTV aired a fascinating special about Gags, and it’s her most personal interview yet.
She talks about her family, her influences, and that interesting time right before she hit the tipping point. Of course, there’s some fashion talk, too. In middle school Gaga would wear her mom’s fake pearls while she sang in the mirror, and she was actually discovered in a boutique. Also, her pantslessness is nothing new! She’s made a habit of performing in bikinis since the beginning of her career.
Same goes for her wig fetish. She first wore one to mask her brunette locks in order to win the role of Adelaide in a high school production of Guys and Dolls. And ever wonder why she’s so fond of leather jackets? It brings her back to New York: “My leather jacket’s like my Dorothy slippers.” You can watch the entire show over at MTV, but check out a couple of our favorite clips below.
