If Ryan Seacrest were at all interested in warding off gay rumors, he might have refrained from not only letting Lady Gaga give him a makeover, but letting rainbow paint be her weapon of choice.
Luckily for our viewing pleasure, it seems the American Idol host has no qualms abut getting the rumor mill spinning and allowed Mother Monster to decorate his face while a guest for On Air with Ryan Seacrest. The inspiration behind Gaga and Seacrest’s ARTPOP maquillage was, in the pop star’s words, “a pissed-off teenager that made out with a clown.”
She elaborated further, telling Seacrest:
“It’s the makeup from my cover for the single ‘Applause.’ We did this makeup on set for the video … and during the film basically we were shooting and I had this clown makeup on my face and as I was singing, I got very passionate and frustrated because I really missed my fans and my hip breaking and everything that happened on tour … [so] I took my hands and smeared the makeup down my face to look like tears and it became one of our favorite scenes in the video so we used it for our ‘Applause’ cover.”
The Lisa Frank-loving child inside of us is digging Gaga’s guise for the moment, but takes solace in the fact that she can’t hold a look for more than a few hours.
