You know a singer is serious when they treat the short trip from their trailer to the set of their new music video as an opportunity to do a bit of performance art, and that’s exactly what seems to have happened when Lady Gaga was filming the music video for You and I.
If you’ll recall, there are a few parts of that video in which Gags plays a mermaid, with her legs so realistically encased in silicone and seaweed that you’d think she really was born that way. Naturally she couldn’t walk, so she had to be carried from her makeshift dressing room to the set, and she flops around like an emotional blonde Ariel for the entire jaunt. Fashion photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin caught the whole process on film — and at some point they put her in a director’s chair and asked her to flop around like a fish out of water. While smoking a cigarette. (Inez and Vinoodh also directed another, slightly less weird “fashion film” featuring Gaga, which you can watch here.) Also Nicola Formichetti is in it, wearing nothing but a necklace and a cowboy hat. Art!
So, you know. Watch:
