PHOTOS: Lanvin’s Mystery Campaign Model Revealed!

There are many reasons we love Alber Elbaz and this one just adds to the growing list. The Lanvin designer cast a spread of real women and men between the ages of 18 and 80 for his fall campaign. And the ads are awesome.

Elbaz explains to WWD:

“I was interested to bring these clothes back to the street somehow, and seeing how they look on different ages, different sizes. It felt like a crazy family, and I like that.”

Steven Meisel photographed the “models” in a messy apartment-like environment in New York where Elbaz learned each person’s backstory. Among the group is a waiter, milliner, and new U.S. immigrant.

WWD revealed one pic of a woman lounging in a chair decked out in Lanvin wares, and sporting platinum blond hair with purple bangs. But thanks to the internet, we’ve also seen a second pic of another mystery woman in a teal peplum ensemble, and looking all sorts of fierce and badass. Rumors flew that the model was China Machado, but it’s actually Advanced Style muse Jacquie “Tajah” Murdock. She’s an ex-Apollo showgirl in her 80s who always dreamed of being a model, and she is amazing. Abbey Lee who?

The ads will drop in September issues, and a viral video is also in the works for release in August.

Elbaz’s crew of older, non-models falls in line with American Apparel‘s new girl and Dolce & Gabbana‘s off-the-street Sicilians. Are real people having a moment? Let’s hope so.

While you’re pondering, check out the Lanvin ads:
