While we’re not always the biggest fans of Lily Allen’s style — in fact, we’re often confused by her over the top, mismatched outfits — other people most certainly are. She impressed Karl Lagerfeld enough with her fashion sense to land her the starring role in Chanel’s Fall 2010 handbag advertisements and now, take a deep breath, Project Runway fans, because a new fashion reality tv show is on its way to the small screen — and this time Ms. Allen is the star.
Last year, the 23-year-old singer announced that she was taking a hiatus from singing to pursue a career in fashion. And now it seems as if that plan is coming to fruition. England’s Metro tells us that Allen and her sister Sarah Owen, will be opening their own vintage clothing store called Lucy in Disguise. A film crew will be following the two as they live the day to day lives of two women opening a retail shop. It just so happens one of those women happens to be among England’s biggest stars.
“They’ve already started filming it,” says a source close to the Metro. “They’re spending quite a lot on each show and there will be a couple of episodes following Lily in her new life in fashion.”
A Channel 4 spokesperson confirmed with Metro that the show is indeed happening and is due out early next year. The show’s name and number of episodes is still to be determined.
We’re not sure Allen will hold a candle to other fashion reality tv stars like our beloved Whitney Port, or the Project Runway power trio of Nina Garcia, Michael Kors, and Heidi Klum. But we’re willing to give Allen a chance, if for no other reason than our interest in the show’s concept. The story behind the creation of a store, especially if that store is vintage, could be something big and, dare we say, something new and fresh.
