The animal rights organization knows that Lohan, who’s been sentenced to another stint in rehab, is hard up for the 50 Gs her three-month stay at California’s Betty Ford Clinic is going to cost. So, in a letter to the the actress, PETA pledged up to $40,000 of the check on the condition that Lohan go vegan.
“PETA will help pay your $50,000 bill for substance addiction treatment if you’ll rid yourself of one more toxic substance: meat,” the letter said.
It’s certainly a creative way to drum up some publicity (and to spend a boatload of cash). The organization will cover $20,000 if Lohan agrees to give up animal products, $10,000 more if she keeps to a vegan diet during rehab and an additional $10,000 if she stays vegan for an entire year.
Of course, we wouldn’t hold our breath if we were PETA. Lohan has demonstrated time and time again that she doesn’t think she has a substance-abuse problem, though her frequent run-ins with the wrong side of the law have turned that faulty logic on its ear time and time again.
We’re not vegans (how anyone could turn down a delicacy as wonderful as bacon has never made sense to us) but we kinda think this might be a good idea for Lohan. Maybe letting go of something like meat will make it easier for her to let go of the various other, um, consumables that keep getting her into trouble. Plus, it’d totally make her look like she’s a cuddly animal lover, and any positive association she can garner these days is sorely needed.
