Looks like we’ll be able to get our Mad Men fix a little before 2012 after all. While the series isn’t coming back this year, a fashion line inspired by the hit show will appear in Banana Republic stores everywhere this fall.
Are you one of those people who watch Mad Men episodes and think, “I wish I had Joan Holloway’s style?” or “Why don’t men dress like that anymore?” You are not alone. And, thanks to the just announced collaboration, all your Mad Men dreams can come true (at least all the style-related ones).
Mad Men’s costume designer, Janie Bryant, paired up with Banana Republic creative director Simon Kneen to design a show-inspired collection that is seriously cute. The men’s line as features “chunky-meets-streamlined knit sweaters, tailored suit separates and fitted trousers.” And in addition to clothing, the store will be selling sixties-style accessories like fedoras, pocket squares, and money clips. Sounds as dapper as Don Draper himself.
For those of you lusting after Betty‘s printed dresses and Joan’s curve hugging frocks, you’re in luck! The women’s line boasts classic sixties garb like “chic trench coats, tailored dresses, high-waisted skirts, silk tie-neck blouses and leopard print pump heels.”
Bryant, who has won a number of awards for her work on the show, gushed about designing for the store, calling it “an experience [she] would never forget.” She also dispelled any worries that the line will be unwearable or dated, describing the pieces as “fashionable items that are modern, not costume.”
There are sixty five pieces in the collection, which will be in stores this fall. It’s a brilliant idea considering the fictional characters on Mad Men are almost as important fashion icons as the actors who play them. Check out our favorite pieces below, we’re pretty sure you’ll all be as madly in love with the collection as you are with the show that inspired it.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
