Claire McCaskill‘s daughters became our breakout style stars of Election Night (and, as it turns out, many other people’s, too) when their mom beat out notorious Republican candidate Todd Akin in the Missouri senate race and the sisters popped up on screens nationwide looking far more fashionable than what we’ve come to expect from people standing so close to a political podium.
Their names, as it turns out, are Lily and Maddie Esposito. Lily, 21, is a student at Hunter College in New York City, and Maddie, 23, graduated from The New School and has spent her recent months helping her mom’s campaign.
The Atlantic Wire interviewed Maddie on “what it’s like to be an election meme” (it’s “funny but stupid,” apparently) and both sisters chatted with The Cut about stealing each others clothes, dressing up as the Huntsman girls for Halloween, and how they reacted to Akin’s “legitimate rape” comments. We learned that the elder sib’s dress was BCBG, while Lily’s sweater was Theory and her top was a Beacon’s Closet find. Both, of course, were totally shutting it down. And we mean that in the most un-Akin, Rachel Zoe sense of the phrase.
We also learned that they definitely share our thoughts on Sasha and Malia Obama:
L: The Obama girls are flawless and way much cooler than we are.
M: I’d like to think that someday I could be as cool as the Obama girls.
Girl, don’t we all.
