Do you look longingly at the Material Girl section of your local Macy’s juniors department every time you walk past it, wishing that Madonna would make a clothing line grown women could wear without feeling bad about it? Your wish is about to come true.
Women’s Wear Daily reports that Madonna will soon launch Truth or Dare by Madonna, a lifestyle brand aimed at an “older customer.” Representatives of MG Icon, the company that manages Material Girl, say Truth or Dare will start with a fragrance, then expand to clothing, handbags and accessories in the years to come.
“Over the past several years, I have been approached countless times to create my own brand,” Madonna said. “The timing is right and I have found great partners in Iconix, who can help translate my vision to reality.”
The Iconix Brand Group, which helps manage MG Icon and Material Girl, owns and manages a wide field of brands and licenses — they’re responsible for everything from Badgely Mischka to London Fog to every t-shirt with an image of Snoopy on it. To say that they’re prepared to make Madonna’s brand a very lucrative one would be an understatement.
There’s no official word on when the line or the fragrance will be available for purchase — which means we have no idea what it’s going to cost yet. But you can probably expect that like Material Girl, Truth or Dare by Madonna will be sold at Macy’s before it lands in any other store.
