We long ago learned to expect the unexpected from Marc Jacobs. The designer’s ads are never conventional, but the newest men’s campaign is truly one of the strangest we’ve seen in a while. To start, MJ’s latest muse is a really naked 53-year-old man named Cerith Wyn Evans.
While you may feel like you know too much about Evans from these pics, there are a few things we want to tell you about this latest unlikely Marc model. Evans is a London-based Welsh artist who started out directing music videos in the ’80s, but now focuses mostly on sculpture. He’s done a number of light installations over the past few years! That said, we have no idea how he and Marc got to know one another.
Jacobs’s past campaigns have included everything from a gender-bending Andrej Pejic to Victoria Beckham being swallowed whole by an oversized shopping bag, and it seems like the designer also has a thing for more “mature” models. His 2007 spring campaign featured photographer William Eggleston (who was 68 at the time), and more recently, middle-aged Helena Bonham Carter became the face of the women’s fall collection.
This year’s men’s fall ads were shot by Juergen Teller, MJ’s go-to photog. Evans looks pretty weird, but his bum-baring oddball look is indeed so classically Marc. We could, however, have done with a few more balloons.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
