Come on, you’ve always wondered what goes on inside the pretty little head of Marc Jacobs. After all, the kilt-loving designer singlehandedly made us reconsider shoulderpads, top knots and harem pants. So we couldn’t help but pour over the minutes from his recent lecture at the French Institute — part of their Fashion Talks series.
What does Mr. Jacobs find sexy ? Certainly not clothes. In fact, the artist (because “you could call [him] that”) says he prefers all things “banal”, “cliche”, and “awkward”. Perhaps that explains the designer’s recent range of tweedy gray culottes, ankle socks and pointy-toe low-heeled croc pumps.
But clothes, who needs them? (Besides his business partner Robert Duffy.) In the world according to Marc, “A sexy girl wrapped in a sheet is still a sexy girl. And a non-sexy girl in a low cut dress is still a non-sexy girl.” We’ll keep that one in mind next time we go shopping at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
Do we smell togas for Spring/Summer 2011?
