Is Marco Zanini Leaving Rochas To Design For Schiaparelli?

Marco Zanini is the latest name to be added to the list of designers potentially poised to take the reins at the soon-to-be-revived Schiaparelli label. But with over a year of speculation behind us, encompassing everyone from Erdem Moralioglu and Nicolas Ghesquière to Giles Deacon and John Galliano, does this latest set of rumors hold water any more than the rest?

WWD reports that the designer is said to be on his way to the house, “although the exact nature of his role could not be determined.” Tod’s chairman and CEO Diego Della Valle acquired the label in 2006 and plans to re-launch it in mid-2013, so the time is ripe to attach a head designer to the brand. So far, only French icon Inès de la Fressange and “fashion personality” Farida Khelfa have been confirmed as being involved.

But how would Zanini fare at the quirky, storied house founded by the legendary surrealist designer Elsa Schiaparelli? Since joining Rochas in 2008, his collections have blended nostalgia with the utmost luxury, but never without a touch of insouciance, and, on top of that promising foundation, reports have proven his sales acumen. Whether or not the reports are true remains to be seen, but watch this space! We can only hope the doors of Schiap’s fabulous flat will be flung open once again very, very soon.
