Olsen Twins LargeMary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are in New York City promoting the two new fragrances for their label Elizabeth and James. Nirvana Black and Nirvana White are finally available for sale, and we can only assume the Olsens have onslaught of beauty interviews on the books.

When Elle chatted with the new perfumers, the conversation naturally evolved from fragrance to beauty. These ladies typically stick to smokey eyes and nude lips, so as far as must-have beauty products are concerned, there isn’t much to tell. Ashley “sometimes” has an eyebrow spoolie in her purse. Mary-Kate like to carry Clé de Peau powder and Brave Soldier Lip Balm, which Ashley describes as” high-impact chapstick for sports like hiking and skiing.”

But when it comes to makeovers, Ashley may be the superior sister.

“I think I’m pretty good at doing other people’s makeup,” she said. “I think after getting my makeup done for so many years I’m pretty good at that. My friend actually also made me cut her hair the other day and that didn’t look too bad either. She had long hair, too. It was down to here [salutes to her belly button] and I cut it up to here [points to just below her shoulder]. She made me do it, but it looks great. I made it a blunt, A-line haircut. And then we had a professional come in after and clean it up a bit! But it was pretty good on its own.”

Mary-Kate admits to not having any hidden beauty talents, which doesn’t seem to bother her in the least.

“You know, the truth is I feel like I just learned how to brush my hair like last week!” [She laughs.]
