Red carpet champ Mary-Louise Parker has done what Anne Hathaway threatened, and is quitting showbiz because of all you internet haters. Parker, who is best known for starring in Weeds, the Red franchise and R.I.P.D, told News Corp Australia today that she’s “almost done acting.”
“I’m not really that into it anymore,” went the news bomb as it was dropped in the middle of promoting R.I.P.D. “I don’t know how many more movies I wanna do. I wouldn’t mind doing a TV show again, I’d to do a couple more plays, but I’m almost done acting, I think.”
In spite of our recent thumbs up to her red carpet chops, Parker blames the mean-spirited nature of the internet and commenters who don’t think before donning their troll hats.
The world has gotten too mean for me, it’s just too bitchy. All the websites and all the blogging and all the people giving their opinion and their hatred … it’s all so mean-spirited, it’s all so critical.
I don’t know if you can imagine a friend sending you something they thought was funny, that was something mean someone wrote about you and there’s like 50 comments from complete strangers across the world about you – and you can say ‘Oh I let it roll off my back’ and ‘I wouldn’t take it personally’, but you have no idea until it happens to you. It doesn’t feel nice.
Parker says she wants to keep her kids away from the same cruelty that she had to endure. She has a nine-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl, and a possible secret lovechild in The Cut-turned-Buzzfeed Fashion Editrix Amy Odell (right?)
