PHOTOS: See Who Swapped Gowns For The Met Gala After Party

Sometimes two dresses are better than one — especially when you’re going from a formal soirée at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to a late night party at the Standard Hotel. But while many guests at last night’s Met Gala opted to stick with their red carpet pick, a handful pulled out second designer looks for the latter half of the evening.

Madonna added a black satin trench to match her raven ‘do, presumably overtop the custom, punk-inflected Givenchy getup she rocked throughout the night. Another punk original, the one and only Debbie Harry, added a technicolor t-shirt to her all-black ensemble.

Jessica Paré’s first outfit, a cobalt Jason Wu top and black pants, actually looked more comfortable than the pale blue minidress she changed into, while Karen Elson looked thoroughly rock ‘n roll in an embellished leather Saint Laurent tunic.

Anne Hathaway likewise ditched the Valentino gown that landed her on our best dressed list, and was snapped en route to the Standard in a blue minidress — and, of course, that new platinum pixie cut.

Sure, the punk thing to do might be to keep the party going in the same dress ’til Sunday, wear and tear be damned, but if Madge and Blondie are doing it, who are we to judge?

See the after party outfits below, and for more Met Gala madness, check out our picks for the punkest looks on the red carpet, and our biggest disappointments of the evening:
