The most exclusive invite of the season is being extended to more than a few gate crashers this year — well, sorta. The Met Gala is going to be more of a public spectacle than ever, with ramped up livestream coverage, social media tie-ins with industry insiders, and now a shop-the-red carpet initiative with co-sponsor Moda Operandi.
That means that by the time certain stars’ post-gala hangovers have worn off the next morning, you’ll have already had the opportunity to load up your shopping cart and purchase the gowns off their backs, all from the comfort of your sofa.
As Moda Operandi co-founder Lauren Santo Domingo explained in a press release, “Events like the Met Gala offer some of the most spectacular fashion moments because they inspire experimentation. We are thrilled to be able to provide women with access to the fashions from one the world’s most thrilling red carpet events.” So far seven designers have confirmed their participation, working closely with the MO team to ensure more immediacy than ever before.
The “Punk: Chaos to Couture” gala is on May 6 and the sale starts May 7, so you don’t have much time to start pinching pennies in anticipation of the sale, but hey, maybe if you bring in a photo of Anja Rubik’s Anthony Vaccarello gown from last year, you’ll find a sympathetic bank lender.
Get a look at pieces from the designers who have been confirmed so far and let us know who you’d like to see donning their wares — besides yourself, of course:
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
