Designer Michael Kors has joined the list of proud openly gay men and women who’ve made videos for the It Gets Better campaign. In his brief yet heartfelt message to LGBT youth struggling with a world that does not fully accept them, Kors sends the message that being different means being special. And being special is something worth living for.
“You feel different … you are different, but you know what? Different will turn out to be a great thing for you,” he says. “If I was like everybody else, I couldn’t do what I do. I couldn’t be Michael Kors.”
Messages like this are part of sex columnist Dan Savage‘s response to a string of young gay men who have committed suicide. It benefits The Trevor Project, a national anti-suicide hotline aimed specifically at gay youth. Notably, Tim Gunn has been among other members of the fashion community to record such a message, and we hope Kors won’t be the last.
