Michelle’s Inauguration Attire: Let’s Meet The Designer Shortlist!

In the four years since President Obama took office, plenty of designers have benefitted from the Michelle Obama Effect, a surge in sales and a boost in name recognition after the First Lady steps out in one of their creations. But none perhaps more than Jason Wu, who became one of the hottest designers in the game after the FLOTUS wore his white one-shouldered gown to the inaugural ball in 2009.

Likewise, Cuban-American designer Isabel Toledo said she “went from being a best-kept secret to being a household name” after Obama chose to wear her yellow shift dress and coat to the ceremony.

With the second inauguration a mere four days away, WWD has a list of 14 designers, all of whom Michelle has previously worn, whose samples have reportedly been called in by East Wing staffers. And while Michelle will no doubt wear custom designs, we’ve put together a slideshow of some of the designers’ recent runway looks to get you acquainted in preparation.

Which designers do you think would be the best fit for the big day? Or is there a name you’re disappointed to see left off the list?
