The fancy Inaugural Ball may over, but Michelle Obama is still werkin’ it. This morning, she looked as fresh as ever attending the National Prayer Service at the National Cathedral in an ivory Naeem Khan ensemble.
Khan, who has dressed Michelle on multiple occasions, designed a wool coat and dress with an Art Deco and Aztec-patterned jeweled neckline and trim inspired by his travels. Michelle smartly swept up her hair in what appears to be a half-up, half-down hairstyle to show off the ornate neckline and coordinating earrings.
The 54-year-old Indian-American designer told WWD that, like so many other designers, he created the outfit about a month ago without knowing which event the First Lady would be attending: “There is never a confirmation for what it’s going to be for.”
He also sounded a bit jealous that Michelle didn’t wear his designs at yesterday’s festivities, but acknowledged that his compatriots did a mighty fine job:
“It’s an ongoing thing. She looked so beautiful yesterday. You might feel a little sad but you have to contemplate the process. I know she loves my things and there will be more things that come along.”
