Though the favored parlance this election season may be “swing” or “battleground,” another fitting name for the not-quite-red, not-quite-blue states is, of course, “purple.”
Michelle Obama may have had this in mind last night when she dressed for a rally in Des Moines, Iowa, where she and President Obama were firing up the crowd in one final campaign push. The First Lady took to the podium in a black coat worn over black pants and a turtleneck, with a lilac geometric-printed scarf tied around her neck. Accessories-wise, she also opted for black patent shoes and a large purple flower pin at her lapel.
And ok, ok — we guess she might have had bigger things on her mind than the precise hue of her neck adornments (like, perhaps, the fact that today is Election Day), but we will point out that Michelle’s wardrobe has been heavy on the shades of purple throughout the last few weeks, from the indigo skirt suit she wore to the first debate to her violet shirt dress at a recent campaign rally.
