Mick Jagger’s first love, Chrissie Shrimpton, was either a hopeless romantic or simply just a madwoman — either way, an anonymous bidder is now the owner of The Rolling Stones frontman’s famous locks.
The younger sister of ’60s supermodel Jean Shrimpton, who began dating Jagger at 17, got a hold of her then-boyfriend’s trimmings after a routine haircut, and now, over 50 years later, decided to let the anatomical keepsake go under the hammer. The hair, which sold at double its pre-sale estimate at $6,000, came in an envelope bearing the message, “Mick Jagger’s hair after being washed + trimmed by Chris at Rose Hill Farm.”
While we’re not exactly one for taking a scissor to our boyfriend’s mop, we don’t want to give Ms. Shrimpton too much flack, as anyone who dated the Casanova of the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, and made it out alive, deserves a shiny medal of honor.
That said, and perhaps we’re admitting that we too are as mad as a hatter, we’re a little bit perplexed as to why Jagger’s tresses didn’t sell for more. Had we had the finances to back it, we might have just put our own bid out on Sir Mick’s DNA.
