The Missoni Family Issues A Statement About Vittorio’s Found Luggage

In a move to clarify last week’s reports that a bag from the plane carrying Vittorio Missoni and his fellow passengers had been found, the Missoni family has issued a statement to the media.

WWD reports that the family now confirms that two bags were found on the Caribbean island of Bonaire February 10, more than one month after the plane disappeared off the coast of Venezuela. The first was labeled with Missoni’s name, as well as that of his life partner, Maurizia Castiglioni, while the second was found “not too far” away and was originally stowed inside the first. Both were empty and “very damaged inside, with their many zips entirely unzipped,” according to the statement.

This news follows the revelation made several weeks ago that another bag that was stowed onboard the plane was found on the island of Curaçao, likewise completely empty.

The families stressed that “the case [of the missing executive] is not closed” and asked that news outlets take “the utmost caution in the diffusion of unverified news” in light of their “difficult and greatly uncertain situation.”
