‘Tis the season for LA art museum events! Last weekend the Los Angeles County Museum of Art held its gala, and this weekend it was the Museum of Contemporary Art‘s turn.
The MOCA Gala was curated by Marina Abramovic, which made for an unusual evening. Guests were asked to don white lab coats upon entry, and live human heads acted as table centerpieces. Shirtless dudes carried Debbie Harry on stage, where she performed a couple of songs. Stranger yet, two life-sized naked cake statues of Abramovic and Harry were brought on stage. Harry attacked her statue with a machete, and then both statues were dismembered by the shirtless dudes and served to patrons. Performance art, you guys! Crazy.
Luckily, before the high profile guests put on their lab coats, they walked the red carpet. We loved Gwen Stefani‘s black Carven dress, bright heels, deliciously messy bun, and bright lips. Jaime King, Rachel Zoe, and Dita Von Teese also opted for black gowns, though Dita’s Jean Paul Gaultier number was decidedly less conventional than the others. Nicole Richie‘s ornate Julien Macdonald and Kirsten Dunst‘s detailed Rodarte added some kick to the red carpet, as did Rose McGowan‘s bright (and figure-hugging) Herve L. Leroux frock.
Who looked best? Tell us what you think!
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
