Let’s break this all down, nice and easy…
THE GOOD: OMFG we can’t with Elizabeth Banks. Her Elie Saab jumpsuit is just the best. The abstract lace cutouts are cool and sophisticated and sexy in a restrained way — so, so good. Emma Watson also upped the cool factor in a digital print Brood dress and killer strappy Tabitha Simmons sandals. Our other favorite Emma, Emma Stone, was elegant in a fun take on the peplum in black and white Martin Grant. Kristen Stewart‘s sparkly (and colorful!) geometric Guishem number ruled, and we have to give a shoutout to Janelle Monae for best makeup (pink lips!).
THE BAD: Julianne Hough may have some impressive abs, but that’s no excuse for wearing an atrocious Sally LaPointe peekaboo peplum creation. (Also, she totally looks like Meg Ryan in the face, right?). Jessica Biel appears to be wearing a Chanel bathmat, Ciara‘s Balmain dress is uncomfortably short making its slit crazily high, and Shailene Woodley shows menswear on ladies can go terribly wrong in Stella McCartney.
THE WHATEVER: Charlize Theron is stunningly beautiful and her red Lanvin dress was incredibly boring. Dare we say death to the peplum? Yawn, next, etc. Lucy Hale showed up in a wrinkled Catherine Malandrino that looked like a poor man’s Haider Ackermann, and Christina Ricci‘s Christian Siriano wasn’t particularly memorable. We commend Leighton Meester for whipping out some Christian Cota, but shorts seem a bit casual, even for an MTV event.
THE PERPLEXING: Andrew Garfield in a short-sleeved button-down. Discuss.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
