It’s practically become commonplace for fashion campaigns to put more of an emphasis on sex appeal than showcasing the clothes, and because of this, brands are constantly trying to reinvent the wheel when it comes to a creative state of undress. So when French Connection came up with a clever way to boast both nudity and their latest wares, we were pretty impressed.
The fall campaign, a brainchild of famed photographer Rankin and illustrator Jo Bird, straddles the line between reality and illustration as each of the models is pictured naked with clothing sketched onto their svelte frames. And while it might sound like a cop out for your wandering eyes, we promise that the etches leave little to the imagination.
It certainly doesn’t mark the British company’s first racy spread (this is the company whose acronym FCUK raised eyebrows in the ’90s, after all), but it is their first campaign shot in nuanced black-and-white.
