Turns out the folks at Gucci can get their dresses on multiple magazine covers, just like their friends at Balmain and Dolce. The woven metallic dress that closed the Gucci spring 2011 show has landed on two pretty high-profile magazine covers, gracing the curves of Naomi Campbell on June’s Vogue Japan and Beyonce on March’s L’Officiel. And somehow, we can’t decide who wore it better.
Beyonce’s cover is from the issue that caused all that controversy — after all, you can put a lady in blackface without raising a few eyebrows — but we still think she looks good in the dress. She fills it out, and all of its woven craziness seems to be a natural extension of her skin. With Campbell, you see the dress first and foremost — it stands out against the color of her skin, but Campbell makes the dress look good, and not the other way around.
So what do you think? Does it look better on Beyonce because it looks like something she would wear, or does it look better on Campbell because she can wear almost anything?
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
