Yesterday, the world lost its greatest figure of peace and equality, Nelson Mandela. The South African anti-apartheid leader died at 95-years-old after several years of fragile health. While the tragic news of his death broke, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, a film that tells his life story, was screening in London. In attendance for the premiere were Prince William and Kate Middleton, as well as Mandela’s daughter Zindzi Mandela. According to Express UK, many in the audience burst into tears, while others sat quietly upon hearing the news. A two-minute silence was held at the end of the film and the premiere’s after-show party was promptly cancelled. While the news came as a heart-rending shock, many felt it was fitting that tribute was being paid to the icon amidst his final hours.
