FIRST LOOK: Nike To Release Rad Black History Month Collection

How had you planned to celebrate Black History Month? We were going to do it with a series of articles, but now we’re thinking we might just go out and pick up a few items from Nike‘s new capsule collection, dedicated specifically to Black History Month.

The collection, which Nylon Guys reports will be in stores on Feb. 11, features African-inspired patterns and applies them to a variety of shoe models, including the Air Force I, Huarache Free 2012, and even the LeBron 9. The collection also includes a t-shirt that says “Uplift,” and a varsity jacket stamped with the letter B. The tongues of the collection’s shoes will be inscribed with the monogram BHM. (We’ll give you three guesses as to what that stands for.)

We haven’t seen a statement yet regarding what inspired Nike to release this collection now, but we really don’t care about their motives. This is a cool way for a huge multinational corporation to tell the world that it cares about Black History Month. We almost don’t mind that they’re going to make a ton of money on this project. Almost.

Take a look at a few pieces of the collection below.
