The circus of Fashion Week is a great time for test-driving weird and wacky trends. But while ostentatious hats and fully-grown men in Jeremy Scott teddy sneakers are an everyday sighting, there’s one front row accessory that has us a little more perplexed.
It seems the eyewear world’s creepy uncle, also known as Google Glass, is making some very fashionable friends. First Marie Claire’s Nina Garcia started using the controversial frames to let her follows track shows via the #BeNina hashtag (evidence here). Then Lucky’s Eva Chen Instagrammed a snap of a glass-clad Hanneli Mustaparta with the caption ‘Brave new world: @hannelim testing out my#googleglass! She makes it look chic, no?’ Spoiler: She does.
Then we found something even more foreboding: Google Glass’ Instagram account. At present it only has 450 followers and 24 photos, but 16 of those 24 photos are of dashing New York Fashion Week attendees sporting Google Glass outside the Lincoln Centre and Milk Studios. Many of those photos are group shots, too, which means that there are at least 28 people currently making Google Glass look chic.
Take a look through some of the photos below, and listen carefully for the sound of this Tumblr tolling its own death bell.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
