Obama And Clinton Kvell Over Soccer Team’s Shoes

The US soccer team got a presidential sendoff last week, visiting the White House to shake hands and pose for pictures with President Obama, Vice President Biden and former President Clinton before departing for South Africa for the World Cup. But in addition to all the well-wishing, meeting, and greeting, the team got some presidential snaps for its sartorial choices.

Footwear News reports that Clinton really seemed to like the Cole Haan Capers that shod the entire team — so much so that he pointed out how nice the shoes were to President Obama. The players wore light-brown leather versions of the $295 cap-toe oxfords, but they come in three other colorways, including a creamy canvas that we’re dying to get our hands on for summer.

Clinton later said he wanted to join the team just to get the shoes.

Not to be one-upped, Obama — who wore Cole Haan shoes at his inauguration — said the group was “the best-dressed soccer team” he’d ever seen. And while we wouldn’t normally pair khaki trousers with a track jacket, the shoes definitely deserve a presidential seal of approval.
