We have such a love/hate relationship with Olivia Palermo. We hate her patronizing attitude and her inability to move her jaw. But we love her ridiculously shiny and never frizzy hair. We hate the fact that despite her complete and utter incompetency as an “Accessories Editor” for Elle, she manages to avoid being fired on a daily basis. But we kind of love the fact that she’s willing to look like a total jerk on national television. And while we sort of hate that she has what appears to be a never-ending supply of really expensive clothing, we have to admit: we love her style. So it’s with mixed emotions that we’re reporting Palermo’s plans to design her very own clothing line.
Clearly we’re not surprised — what sort of MTV reality star would she be if she didn’t have delusions of designer grandeur? — but at the same time, we thought Palermo had forgone fashionable aspirations for thespian ones. Hasn’t she always said she wanted to be an actress? Turns out, she still wants to be an actress, she just also wants to model, and design clothing. So what are her so-called qualifications?
“Recently, I’ve been taking dresses in my closet, vintage or from a previous season, and re-draping them, adding my own personal touch with a brooch or a belt. Reinventing them.”
What we wouldn’t give to put Palermo in front of Elle’s Fashion News Director Anne Slowey — she who made poor Whitney Port cry after more or less ripping her clothing line to shreds. Because as much as we love Whitney, it was, in a word, awesome.
But in the meantime, here are some photos of Palermo muddying her shoes on the streets of Brooklyn, in a shoot for England’s ASOS magazine. She even wears Converse!
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
