Olympic Torch Lit By Ladies In Grecian Gowns, Dudes In Pleated Skirts

Today the flame for the Olympic torch was lit. It was quite a spectacle. This isn’t totally in our purview, but it’s a slow news day and WE LOVE THE OLYMPICS. Also, clothes were involved.

This all went down at the site of Greece’s Temple of Hera ruins, which is near the ancient Olympic stadium. Actresses dressed as priestesses (in Grecian gowns!) and actors dressed as heralds (in pleated skirts!) helped out, as the flame was lit by sunlight reflected off of a mirror (apparently the flame went out briefly, but was relit).

The torch relay will not go around the world as was the case back in 2008, but rather just throughout Greece and the UK (and Ireland), eventually landing in London.
