Petra Collins Toons Out for Adam Selman x Opening Ceremony

'70s Cosmo covers come to life.

Rihanna’s costume designer Adam Selman stepped into the spotlight last September with the debut of his ready-to-wear collection at New York Fashion Week. After working as the pop star’s head designer for her Rihanna for River Island collection, Selman was ready to go solo. For his Spring/Summer 2014 collection, the designer was inspired by 1970s Cosmopolitan covers shot by Francesco Scavullo.  The result was silky dresses, swimwear and star-printed denim in shades of pink, navy, white, and black.

Selman captured the essence of his designs in “Tooned Out,” an editorial shot by Brianna Capozzi for Opening Ceremony. Photographers Petra Collins and Carlotta Kohl hopped on the other side of the lens to serve as models. Despite being shot at the Standard, High Line with clear views of  New York City in the background, Collins and Kohl look like they are exhausted from a wild spring break. Maybe they just got back? They are donning the sort of pieces Rosalyn would wear to erratically run errands in American Hustle 2 (David O. Russell, are you reading this?) Selman’s navy and white, wide-striped halter jumpsuit is certainly a good enough excuse for another movie.
