Citrus chic! We gave it away already, but if you had to guess, would you have known this dress was constructed entirely of grapefruit peels? How amazing. And we can only imagine how good it must have smelled. The model donned this geometric rind creation in celebration of the beginning of harvest season in the Rio Grande Delta. The photo initially appeared in National Geographic in the 1930s.
We also love that it’s a fashion design with a built-in expiration date – it reminds us of the unbelievable floral masterpiece created by Alexander McQueen in 2007 for his spring collection. McQueen once said about the dress: “Things rot. It was all about decay. I used flowers because they die.”
Would you wear a dress made of fruit or flowers? We totally would.
