Yes, this weekend was V Festival 2013, but hence forth it will be known as that time Beyoncé allowed Queen Elizabeth to take five as she took sovereign reign over England with her new asymmetrical bob and repertoire of glistering onesies.
While we’re still in the dark as to what pixie cut conspiracy theory will prove true, B’s chopped coif was a hair toss in the face of naysayers who believed she would lose some of her gusto sans golden mane. Despite showing up 20 minutes late for her V Festival set, B gradually won the crowd over beginning with some of her downtempo Top 40 hits and then subsequently sent them into full-on feverishness with Singles Ladies, Crazy in Love, and Naughty Girl, among other classics.
As far as her stage costumes, there was the Ralph & Russo midnight blue sequin catsuit, Dennis Kolpodinos for Vrettos Vrettakos prominent-shouldered beaded bodysuit, Emilio Pucci neon leopard print fringed mini-dress, black-on-black Givenchy ensemble topped off with a cheeky cat cap, David Koma black and gold ruffled unitard, and even a black and white embellished blouse paired with white high-waisted trouser look.
From beginning to end, her entire set was a feast for the eyes and ears that was completely unrivaled despite some substantial attempts. Giving it an admirable shot was Rita Ora who took the stage in a holographic striped two piece look from Jonathan Saunders and one equally-irredescent pair of mean Sophia Webster leather gladiator boots. And as we can always rely on her to do, Paloma Faith raised the eyebrows of fashion’s faint of heart, and likely the Catholic Church, by committing to head-to-toe Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2013 in a mosaic print dress, ornamental head scarf, gold statement earrings, and bold red ankle strap espadrilles.
