What’s black and white and floral and pink all over?
Guests at yesterday’s pre-Met Ball screening of The Great Gatsby seemed to have dressed more for Truman Capote’s legendary monochrome-themed ball than any bash the film’s namesake would have hosted. While the MoMA resembled the penguin enclosure at Sea World, there were some attendees who didn’t get the memo.
Carey Mulligan suited up in a crisp, strong-shouldered Lanvin spring 2013 tuxedo, while a black-and-gray-clad Vera Wang proved that leather and fur are indeed seasonless.
In the floral camp, designer Nanette Lepore rounded out the black-and-white bunch in a printed ensemble accented with pops of green. Kylie Minoguecame in a Dolce & Gabbana floral top with bell sleeves, and a pair of trousers in the same pattern.
And then we had the pink ladies. Supermodel Anja Rubik covered up this time in a peachy high-necked dress (surprising considering last year’s slit-up-to-there Anthony Vaccarello), and Emma Roberts wore petal pink Jonathan Saunders and a star hair pin that looks suspiciously like a pared-down version of the ones the Mulleavy sisters showed for Rodarte in fall 2012.

this is some kind of spaceship or something.
