We didn’t think the day would ever come, but The Great Gatsby fever that has washed over us is slowly rolling into fatigue. Thankfully, the film’s stars (all but one, at least) seem to have caught wind of this and sported perfectly modern looks for their premiere down under.
Carey Mulligan veered especially away from her character’s lavish costumes. Instead, she opted for a blithely chic Nina Ricci Fall 2013 pairing of a blush lace bustier with black high-waisted cropped trousers. If Daisy Buchanan could’ve seen the slew of jumpsuits Mulligan’s been rocking on this month’s premiere circuit, she would’ve easily tossed the embellished skirts asunder.
While Mulligan had a Christian Dior moment just last week, Elizabeth Debicki gave us an equally striking one. Her statuesque figure was perfect for carrying one of Dior’s most prominent spring looks — the sleeveless cashmere top and floral organza skirt. We couldn’t help but notice that from Cannes to Australia, the entire botanical collection has certainly made its rounds on the red carpets.
See looks from the Australian premiere below, and let us know whether you prefer the cast in their Roaring Twenties guises or outfitted in modern couture.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
