We’re almost a week away from the end of 2011, which means the web is filled with listicles and Best Of proclamations and somewhat arbitrary rankings of all things fashion and style. It has also brought us face to face with a popular opinion that has been bothering us for quite some time: Pippa Middleton, The Style Icon.

In November, Vogue declared her and Kate one of the year’s best dressed sisters and this week The Huffington Post put together a 40 page gallery of Pippa’s “Best Fashion Moments”. But ever since she walked down the long, red aisle at Westminster Abbey in one of the most perfectly designed bridesmaids dresses of all time, we’ve been wondering what all the fuss is about.
Yes, she looked fantastic in that dress. But as far as we’re concerned, the buck stopped there. Sure, Pippa wears clothes — to work, to weddings, to tennis matches — but mostly average, unexciting ones. Her choices in evening gowns are largely uninspired (not to mention often ill-fitting and unfortunately shiny). And to top it off, she has no idea how to style a plaid shirt.
We’re not calling her a bad dresser (though there’s certainly a case to be made), we’re just calling her a boring one. And that does not a style icon make.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
