Man oh man do we love ourselves a good, artsy, conceptual magazine cover, and for its September issue, POP magazine gave us not just one, but three.
The covers star, in no particular order, Karl Lagerfeld favorite Freja Beha Erichsen with a doll that looks like artist Marina Abramovic slung over her shoulder; Marina Abramovic with the Marina Abramovic doll; and Marina Abramovic’s upside down face sporting some seriously dark and glamorous drag makeup. (Note: there really isn’t a difference between drag makeup and regular makeup, it’s just that with drag makeup there’s just usually a lot more of it.)
So what could the covers possibly mean? Well, the magazine is celebrating what it calles “The Marina Abramovic Moment,” so maybe the images on the cover are meant to represent the idea that Marina is everywhere — even in places you might not think about. Like slung over your shoulder.
Check out the covers, below.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
