New York Fashion Week may not have officially started until today, but at last night’s Prabal Gurung for Target launch party, it was clear they were pulling out all the stops to kick off a week of nonstop events. The bash, held in the cavernous Pier 57 space off Mahattan’s West Side Highway, had an over-the-top carnival theme. And we mean it — a colorful carousel, an array of mouthwatering food trucks, people in stilts serving cotton candy out of their XXL pant legs, and a flashing, spinning ride in the center of it all that only the bravest partygoers dared to try.
Carey Mulligan stepped out to show her support, along with Gurung’s adorable campaign star Olivia Thirlby, Isabelle Fuhrman, and Elizabeth Olsen, who, as you’ll see in the gallery below, shared a very special-looking moment with performer Ne-Yo. We also spied Rashida Jones making a beeline for the dumpling truck with a pack of friends.
We don’t blame her — while there were plenty of things to see, rides to ride, and affordable minidresses to buy, all everyone seemed to be able to talk about was the food. Mini tacos, mini corndogs, mini pizzas — even teeny-tiny rum and Cokes in finger-sized glass bottles. Guess when you’re dealing with a crowd who will effectively be eating nothing but finger foods for a week straight, variety is the key to success!
The only thing that put the nibbling to a stop was when Ne-Yo hit the stage in his signature fedora (does he ever take it off?) and an extra festive sparkly scarf – definitely a Fashion Week-worthy array of accessories.

this is some kind of spaceship or something.
