PHOTOS: Miuccia Prada Looks Into Archives For The Great Gatsby Costumes

We’ve seen two trailers for The Great Gatsby, and bits and pieces of the elaborate costuming before. Baz Luhrmann tapped Miuccia Prada to design over forty looks for the movie, and now, we’ve got the first four sketches right here.

Prada, who has worked with Luhrman before on Romeo + Juliet, looked back onto her own archives for her namesake and sister label, and pulled out some showstoppers for the 1920s period piece. Think dresses and gowns embellished with sequins and crystals in rich jewel tones topped with fur. She created the pieces alongside costume designer Catherine Martin, who chatted with British Vogue:

“Our collaboration with Prada recalls the European flair that was emerging amongst the aristocratic East Coast crowds in the Twenties. The fashions of the time saw the development of a dichotomy between those who aspired to the privileged, Ivy League look of wealthy Long Island and those who were aspiring to European glamour, sophistication and decadence. Our collaborations with Prada reflect the collision of these two aesthetics.”

The results are pretty great, and we can’t wait to see them on the big screen when the movie hits theaters this summer. In the meantime, take a look at the sketches below:
