Remember (as if you could forget) that hat Princess Beatrice wore to the royal wedding? The one that got compared to everything from Fallopian tubes to the flying spaghetti monster and now has its own Facebook page and Tumblr? Some called it the most fascinating fascinator at Westminster Abbey, and others said it was an affront to everything that is good and right with millinery. But we hardly think anyone would object to the hat’s next outing, an auction to benefit needy kids all over the world.
Princess Beatrice’s mother, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, told Oprah this week that Beatrice is going to put the hat on eBay. Money from its sale will be divided between UNICEF and Children in Crisis. The Phillip Treacy-designed topper, which has over 136,000 likes on Facebook, has been perhaps one of the most talked about hats in recent memory, certainly getting more attention than the top hat David Beckham wore at the Royal Wedding.
We don’t know exactly when the hat will be listed, but we’re eager to see just how much money it will rake in. Treacy’s creations can cost well over $3,000, and with as much buzz as this hat has generated, we wouldn’t be surprised if it took a lot more at auction.
