Can we just tell you how much we relate to Kate Middleton right now? We know she’s royalty and everything, but the girl is just real. So real, in fact, that during her official royal tour of Canada beginning at the end of June, she’s going to pick out all her clothes. By herself!
And it’s fascinating, really, to see someone in such a high position put aside all of the other things she has to deal with, walk into her wardrobe and just say, “Yes, that will do.” So admirable!
Because when you’re a Duchess (oh, wait, we decided the other day that we’re supposed to call her Princess), it’s probably pretty tempting to have someone pick out your clothes for you, because that’s the kind of thing you can do. But Catherine is stronger than that and refuses fancy helpers to maintain her normalcy. (We hear normal is all the rage in Canada right now.)
But it has us wondering just how she’s going to cope when, eventually, she won’t be able to do it all on her own. Because sooner or later, the normalcy she and Prince William are working so hard to maintain will be null and void. Just by virtue of her title, it’s pretty thin now. And while it really is admirable that Princess Catherine wants to do her own grocery shopping, iron her own shirts and things like that, we think she could do a lot more good (and probably get away with wearing slightly fancier duds) if she accepted just a modicum of help in her personal life. And we guess, when the time calls for it, she will.
